Finding a code for Amazon is almost as easy as finding a needle in a haystack. Yes thats right, almost as EASY as finding a needle in a haystack, because these amazon codes are like gold dust. They are rarely released by the mighty A, but when they are, they are a sight to behold. The average online shopper will be bowled over by the awesome deals that can be found online at Amazon, but for some of us, these discounts just aren't enough, we want more. And we will get more! How? By hunting out one of the revered Amazon Promotional Codes.
But this article is not here to hand over the tricks of the trade just yet, you will have to wait for part 2 for that. This article is merely the prelude to what could be the biggest secret on the internet, so make sure you check back for the real juicy, money saving, discount getting, coin collecting tips and tricks of part 2. While you are here though, we're going to talk about the different types of Amazon discount codes there are available, so you know what you are looking for. There are 4 main types of codes outlined below:
1) The straight up % or £ off promotional code - this code is one of the old skool classics and dates back to the days the internet began trading as a ecommerce platform. This type of code simply gives you a set amount off when applied, for example, enter the code AMAZON10 at the checkout to get 10% off your total order value, really straight forward. This type of promotional code can also be used to deduct a monetary value off, eg use this code and get £5 off your total order value.
2) The spend and save codes - these types of codes are extremely clever, and not only provide us, the consumers, with a great money saving opportunity, but also allow the retailer in this case Amazon, to increase their average basket values above the standard by increasing the minimum spend tiers attached to the codes. Let me give you an example: Imagine a spend and save promotional code structure that looked like this:
Use AMAZON5 to get 5% off all orders over £30 Use AMAZON7 to get 7% off all orders over £40 Use AMAZON8 to get 8% off all orders over £60 Use AMAZON10 to get 10% off all orders over £70
In this example it is more than likely that the AMAZON10 code will experience the highest redemption rates therefore lifting the Amazon average basket value from its normal £47 pounds to anything over £70. These codes really do help us save a lot of money, but as you can see from the fictitious code structure described above, they also make a considerable amount of incremental revenue for the retailer.
3) Free delivery codes - Free delivery codes are one of the most common types of voucher code in the marketplace today. They do exactly what is said on the tin, use the code at the checkout of the Amazon.co.uk website and get free delivery on any order. Amazon have used this type of code in the past to stay inline with Play.com who automatically apply free delivery to all UK orders. In some cases this code will come with a minimum spend, for example get free deliver y on all orders over £50 when using this voucher code. Again the retailer has the power to increase the minimum spend on this type of code to increase their average order value per transaction.
4) Product specific codes - The product specific discount codes are quite common, but are also not highly regarded by the discount code professionals out there. They are good at what they do, but what they do is not that good, if thats makes any sense. For example, Amazon may offer £1 off the new James Bond DVD. This is still a nice little money saver, but not exactly ground breaking, and to be honest, you could probably find a bigger discount on a product basis just by hitting a few of Amazons competitors ie HMV, Play, Zavvi, The Hut etc.
To summarize, Amazon promotional codes are a great way for us to save money, but they also serve a big big purpose to Amazon, not only will they allow them to monitor the redemption rates of a successful code, providing them with invaluable market research, they also to allow them to keep tight control on their margins whilst appearing to make generous discounts their entire product base. Whatever you think about discount codes, we love them so stick around for part 2 of hunting for the perfect amazon promotional code. |
