So far this summer hasn’t been too bad, the sun has been out for most of the last few weeks and everyone has been having BBQ’s. Summertime tends to be the most expensive time of the year due to summer vacations, entertaining the kids, and just generally hanging out in the warm weather. This is the time when our money saving hats should be on and in full swing. Saving money doesn’t have to be a boring experience so here a few ways to have fun this summer.
Summer Vacation
Between the months of June to august travelling abroad will be hugely expensive as it is peak time so if you really want to save try something different like travelling within the UK. Places like Scotland, Wales, Bath, the Lake District and Devon have great scenery and make excellent holiday locations with stunning natural beauty.
Hotels vs. Bed & Breakfast
Bed and breakfasts are a good choice of accommodation. Studies have shown that 69% of hotel visitors do not use the hotels dinner facility so why spend more for a room with dinner. A good old bed and breakfast can do the same thing but with a more intimate and friendly environment and it is a fraction of the cost.
Camping
As an alternative choice to hotels, hostels or bed and breakfasts consider getting back to nature by choosing to go camping. There are hundreds’ of camp sites all over the UK where many cost around £20-£30 to rent the land for you to pitch your tent. Try travelling to Scotland to Glen Nevis a camp site right next to Ben Nevis (the mountain). Whilst you camp you can climb which is a really rewarding experience.
UK Beaches
On a glorious day why not try heading down to your nearest beach. The fresh air will do you good and paddling in the sea could be a great experience. There tends be to be lots to do near beaches with many of the larger beaches having tourist attractions such as fun fairs and roller-coasters. Get great beach outfit ideas from Boden.
Park
Meet your friends in the park to catch up or to have picnic. If all of you bring a dish with you the cost will be shared by all.
Festivals Find the latest free festival in your area to save your bank balance. Try and find free alternatives that are usually advertised in your local newspaper.
Petrol
Petrol prices tend to rise in the summer months so try not to drive everywhere and walk to your local shopping centre, park and friends & families homes. If your adventurous try cycling, the exercise will do you good and will be an enjoyable experience.
Entertaining the Kids Try lowering your costs by substituting theme parks with local activities instead. Keeping the kids entertained is the main aim of the game so once you can master that, the cost of doing things should fall. |
