who remembers the TV series Kim and Aggie the two superefficient cleaning ladies who would dazzle and turn any pig stay into homely boudoir. Time and time again their main ingredients would consist of water, vinegar and a little elbow grease. I loved that show but wasn’t totally convinced you could turn the nastiest looking bath into a sparkling clean haven with the bare essentials! Well according to a study conducted by Heinz, vinegar has been a proven ingredient to kill 99% of bacteria, 82% of mould and 80% of germs in the home.
Scientists state that most detergents could actually be binned and replace with around 3 homemade products. Well with that type of statement I think most of us could make a huge saving! There are in fact around 30 household products that you could exclude from your shopping bill. So here a few facts that I learnt that could help you on your way
Vinegar is actually a natural disinfectant and can be used as an all purpose cleaner. All you need to do is add 1 part of vinegar and 1 part of water. Pop it into a spray bottle and mix well. Use it in the bathroom, to clean your toilet, bath and sink. You’ll be surprised at how sparkly the results will be. Use it in the kitchen also and give your work counter, stove top, appliances and floor a once over.
If you run out of fabric condition vinegar can be your number one choice. Add half a cup of vinegar to your rinse cycle and notice the difference. It’s great for anyone who suffers allergies from a typical detergent too so that’s more of a reason to use it. So what about the smell you may be wondering??? well according to those who use it the smell disappears in a couple of hours so best to use it at night.
Lemons can also do wonders in your home. Use it to clean brass, copper, dishes and surfaces with hard removable stains. Lemons are best used with vinegar and a bit of baking soda. Use these three ingredients and your well on your way to a powerful cleaning paste.
